EcoFlow Delta 1300 Review

Are you tired of working your regular 9-to-5? Would you rather escape to the mountains for some downtime? Perhaps you’d like to pack up your things and live in a van for a few months. Hang on before you hit the open road. Here’s why the EcoFlow Delta 1300 is your ideal travel buddy (in our opinion, at least).

Forget your regular bulky generators, which guzzle copious amounts of fuel and sound like a grizzly bear when in use. The EcoFlow Delta 1300 uses electricity to charge itself, then stores it and supplies power to your devices without the noise. Think of it as a “giant power bank” or battery, except it’s pretty portable. Better yet, you can charge it from solar power too. You’ll no longer be limited to campsites with mains hook-ups when planning your next holiday.

Whether you’re organizing your dream road trip or backpacking with a bunch of mates, the EcoFlow Delta 1300 is the perfect companion for all your camping needs making off-grid living oh-so-easy, from kettles to fridges, and everything in between.

Let’s take a better look at why the EcoFlow Delta 1300 is on our ultimate wishlist and should be on yours too.

Dimensions

The EcoFlow Delta 1300 comes in at 40 x 21 x 27 centimeters and weighs an astounding 14 kilograms (30.91 pounds). It may be small, but don’t underestimate its capability!

Roughly the size of a PC, in volume anyway, the EcoFlow Delta 1300 weighs the same as your average toddler. Not too shabby, if you ask us. We wouldn’t suggest lugging it around on a hike unless you’re up to it, but its compact size makes it easy to transport when traveling.

The compact unit has two sturdy carrying handles, about 20 cm in length, on either side. Overall, the EcoFlow Delta 1300 has a solid, premium feel which oozes luxury.

Front Panel

EcoFlow Delta 1300The front panel of the EcoFlow Delta 1300 houses several things. Namely, the screen display, main-power switch and USB ports for the use of smaller devices.

  • Screen Display

The EcoFlow Delta 1300’s front panel features a digital display that shows you some helpful information.

For starters, the screen shows you how much power is coming in and going out of the unit. You can see the input and output power, measured in watts.

Secondly, the display shows you the percentage of charge on the unit and how many hours are left based on your current output. In other words, the current rate of discharge.

  • 6 USB Ports

The front panel houses 6 USB ports, 4 of which are A-type and the other two are C-type. Two of the A-type USB ports are fast charging and suitable for both Android and Apple users alike.

Rear Panel

At the back of the EcoFlow Delta 1300, you’ll find 4 AC outlets and a charging port.

  • 4 AC Outlets

These plug sockets cater to the European market, so you’ll need an EU to UK adaptor.

If you’re smart, you might want to add a four-way UK extension lead for more sockets. This allows rooms to plug in more gadgets and gives a more extended connection, so you don’t need the generator right next to you when operating your device.

  • Car Outlet

Did you leave your campervan lights on again? Is the battery drained? Don’t worry. The EcoFlow Delta 1300 is the tool for the job. Connect your car battery by plugging it into the car outlet, which is located on the rear panel. The car outlet provides a maximum current of 8 Amperes, with 13.6 Volts and a power of 109 Watts. All this mambo jumbo means is that it can charge your car battery for 12 hours straight. Of course, that’s if it is not charging anything else!

Miscellaneous but Noteworthy

Here are a few items you may find inside the box when purchasing your EcoFlow delta 1300, along with the user manual.

  • Charging Cables

EcoFlow Delta 1300The EcoFlow Delta 1300 comes with three charging cables; one for AC charging, a 12 Volt car charger and a solar cable with MC4 connectors.

The AC charging cable has a 3-pin kettle lead which you can plug into any electrical socket or mains hook-ups to charge the generator. Otherwise, you can use the DC input whenever electrical mains aren’t available or you’re charging it on the go. You can plug the generator into a car lighter or something similar. Do you find that incredible? Just wait; there’s more.

Have you got no charger with you? No problem. You can harness the power of the sun by connecting your EcoFlow Delta 1300 to solar panels. The solar panel should supply power up to 400 Watts, with a voltage between 10 and 65 Volts, including a maximum current of 10 Amperes. So you’re all set, no matter the circumstances.

Thankfully, the socket isn’t anything special, so you aren’t obligated to use EcoFlow’s solar panel. You can find a solar panel that suits your budget and specific needs.

  • Cooler Than Cool

Four fans surround the EcoFlow Delta 1300, two on either side, which keep the battery cool. These fans run to ensure it doesn’t overheat, whether you’re charging the generator itself or using it to make your morning smoothie. They generate some noise, but it isn’t too loud from what we’ve tried and tested. Especially when you’re using a large amount of power, we will take a bit of white noise over having zero power to use our fridge. How else are we meant to keep our drinks cold?

Features

Looks aren’t everything, the EcoFlow Delta 1300 may be a knockout, but it’s got way more to offer beyond the looks department. Let’s delve further into the nitty-gritty and explore why the EcoFlow Delta 1300 is probably our favorite generator so far.

Runs Multiple Appliances Seamlessly

The EcoFlow Delta 1300 comes in handy for a wide range of uses. It works the same as a traditional petrol generator minus the noise, fuel and emissions. Not to mention, it’s also effortless to transport, literally like lifting a baby. Imagine having your own portable power station wherever you go.

Therefore, the EcoFlow Delta 1300 is perfect for you whether you want an emergency UPS/home back-up, are worried about power outages or require a mobile power station. It functions as a usable power source for any occasion.

Overall, the EcoFlow Delta 1300 offers a total of 1800 W power delivered with the 4 EU 240 V AC sockets. What does this mean for you?

Here are a few examples of how the EcoFlow Delta 1300 can be used:

  • Recharge your phone up to 140 times
  • Microwave oven (1300W) up to 2 hours
  • Refrigerator / Freezer (150W) up to 20 hours
  • Flat-screen TV (120W) 12+ hours
  • Hairdryer (1600W) up to 2 hours
  • Recharge laptop (150W) 23+ times
  • Power drill (900W) up to 2 hours

Whatever the appliance, the EcoFlow Delta 1300 is up for the task.

In our experience, we’ve found the generator works best when you’re using several gadgets for short bursts at a time, such as grinding coffee beans, boiling the kettle or charging your laptop. If you’re hoping to run a 1-kilowatt heater or similar high-power devices for long periods, we don’t recommend the EcoFlow Delta 1300. We’re not saying it’s impossible; we think it’s not the most effective. You’ll have to keep an eye on the generator’s output and monitor the time left, so be prepared to charge it regularly. Luckily, you can use the generator while it’s charging!

Fast Charging

EcoFlow Delta 1300Waiting is never fun and with the EcoFlow Delta 1300, you don’t need to. Let the record show; this generator fully charges in under 2 hours. Yes, you read that right. It goes from 0 to 80% in about 1 hour and fully charges in about 90 minutes when connected to AC power, of course.

There are three ways you can charge the EcoFlow Delta 1300. Either by using a standard AC wall outlet, solar panels or charging it with your car. The charging times differ, but AC power is still your best bet.

Lastly, you could charge the generator using your car’s cigarette lighter. There’s no guarantee you’ll get enough sun, and we all forget to pack the charging cables from time to time.

So, what are you waiting for? Currently, the EcoFlow Delta 1300 is the fastest charging portable power station on the market. That’s why you’ll find it in the higher-end of the camping gear section, as the price tag reflects.

Eco-Friendly Power Source

There’s no denying that battery generators are far more environmentally friendly than their gas generator counterparts. No fossil fuels are required, nor are emissions released from burning them. In addition, you’ll be able to connect the EcoFlow Delta 1300 to solar panels for charging.

Although this isn’t the most time-savvy option, it allows you to charge the generator without relying on an electricity supply. This is great when traveling to remote locations where access to electricity is limited. Because solar power is a renewable energy source, you’ll be choosing a more sustainable approach, which is another bonus.

Long Lifespan

As with all lithium-ion batteries, the EcoFlow Delta 1300 is no exception and degrades over time. This portable power station delivers up to 800 charges until its capacity of 1260 Wh drops to 60%. In other words, it will still be usable but not functioning at its optimum.

Suppose you’re planning a weekly adventure, where you’ll charge your EcoFlow Delta 1300 once or twice. It will take almost 15 years for the generator to decrease its capacity to 1000 Wh. Thus, we feel you should reserve the portable power station for occasional use.

Pros

  • Fastest charging battery power on the market
  • Various outlets for several devices
  • Compatible with solar panels
  • Can be used to power devices while it’s charging itself
Cons

  • Limited portability
  • Pricey, as it’s on the higher end of products when compared to other options available
  • After 800 charges, the battery’s capacity decreases to 60%
  • The fans may be a bit noisy when delivering a high power output
  • Intended for occasional use, not extended periods at a time

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who is EcoFlow?

EcoFlow was founded in 2017 by a group of engineers with a background in the drone industry. Chinese engineers that previously worked for the DJI drone company paired forces with American engineers. EcoFlow is a US-Chinese portable power company with offices in San Francisco, CA, Shenzhen and China. The company focuses on the research, development and sales of energy storage products. They gained popularity with their Delta and River series of power stations.

2. How do I charge my EcoFlow Delta 1300?

You have three options to choose from when charging your power station. You could connect the generator to the main hook-up for AC charging. AC charging is the quickest and most stable method, resulting in a charge time of 90 minutes, that’s going from flat to fully charged.

Otherwise, you could use your car to charge it, which takes about 11 hours. Charging it with your car is the least efficient of the methods but a great option when you’re in an emergency or there’s merely no sunshine.

3. What is the warranty for the EcoFlow Delta 1300?

The portable power station comes with a 24 month warranty period, dependent on where you’ve made the purchase. If you backed them on Kickstarter when the product was undergoing its initial design and manufacturing, you’d have a lifetime warranty on the battery. Pay attention to the user manual and read the terms carefully. Ensure you’re following the instructions clearly, to avoid any mishaps or falling out of the user agreement.

4. How many devices can I charge at the same time?

The number of ports on the power station means nothing when there isn’t enough battery capacity to power all of your appliances. The EcoFlow Delta 1300 can charge up to 13 devices at a time. You can increase the number of devices by using extensions to add more electrical sockets. Obviously, this could affect the output power as devices may not be functioning at their peak performance.

5. How noisy is the EcoFlow Delta 1300?

The EcoFlow Delta 1300 isn’t extremely quiet, but it’s probably not as noisy as you’d expect! The four internal fans run when the generator is charging or operating a heavy load. The fans prevent overheating to maintain the generator’s lifespan.

Final Thoughts

The EcoFlow Delta 1300 has revolutionized how power is generated, stored, and supplied wherever, whenever. Level up your camping game with this life-changing portable battery power.

Whether you’re looking to use drills or power tools, charge electronics for remote work or want to make use of appliances when camping, you can rely on the EcoFlow Delta 1300 for any of your off-grid needs.

Don’t be fooled. It is a reasonably expensive power station when compared to others available. However, it stays true to its promise of being the fastest charging generator on the market and offers a high power output when using multiple devices. Plus, its long lifespan justifies its hefty price tag. It’s a worthwhile investment for many years, with occasional use.

The main decisive factor in buying the EcoFlow Delta 1300 depends on what you intend to use it for. We don’t suggest it for full-time off-grid living, as it will require regular charging, which radically reduces its lifetime.

Depending on their length, the EcoFlow Delta 1300 could work as the primary power source for camping trips. If you pair the power station with solar panels, you can continually generate power and store power around the clock (provided that you get enough sun)—a winner in our books.
